The reason for the mudflow has been broadly contested with two main theories. Some consider it was attributable to PT Lapindo, a gasoline & oil firm drilling within the area. Others consider it was attributable to an earthquake that occurred similtaneously the eruption.

Big thanks to Vice, which has covered Ms Harwati, one of the Lapindo Mudflow victims to speak out for environmental injustice.
Ok ok hold you had me at toxic mud volcano like wtf is that…
thank you vice for exposing this
May god be with you.
Watching this while scrolling through Bakrie's kids' IG is true irony
The government / the company (idk which) only refund the land loss. Not property like House, transportation, and furniture.
can't believe you report about this. Indonesian media feels like have been forget about this one. Thanks to all of the Vice crews.
If I see one more ad for that stupid ass stair slide, I swear..
No such thing as a natural disaster. It’s just natural.
This like this has happened to the whole world at some point during the last 3-500 years. Most buildings in most city’s in most country’s have their first floors buried by some sort of mud flood, no mainstreams sources ever seem to acknowledge the obvious.
now BAKRIE FAMILY just using drugs and not paying to the victims
And this is just one of the reasons why we need to remove our dependence on fossil fuels. How many more villages will be destroyed because of careless, lying, unaccountable companies? If this sets us back 100-200 years, so be it. At least we won't be living in an ever increasing polluted planet.
i was today years old when i learned that mud volcanoes were a thing. all condolences to everyone affected.
The plants are our hair, the air is our breath, the land is our body.
15 years has passed and the mud is still coming out until now
about 800ha areas is covered in 18m thick mud

Lapindo janc*k
I've been to that town when I was a kid, but unfortunately the information I got wasn't that bad. What I know is that the people there are getting good treatment by the government
Well, i live in this city actually.
About 10 miles from my house.
It was 15 years ago, but didn't stop until now
Now I'm 19, can't believe time flies so fast. And if you visited it, you'll see there's a lot of house and buried with mud right there
Capitalism Sucks
15 years…. And it's still come out non stop
