Martti Ahtisaari, Finland’s former president, and Nobel Peace Prize winner, is in hospital after testing optimistic for Covid-19 for a second time, his basis stated Thursday.
The 84-year-old former mediator of worldwide conflicts first contracted the sickness in March 2020.
“President Ahtisaari is doing nicely below the circumstances, however is being handled in hospital,” his basis stated.
The president of Finland from 1994 till 2000, Ahtisaari was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008 for his work to finish conflicts in Indonesia, Namibia, Northern Eire, and the Balkans.
Affected by Alzheimer’s illness, he introduced his withdrawal from public life in September.
The previous UN diplomat oversaw negotiations for reconciliation in 2005 between the Indonesian authorities and GAM rebels in addition to Kosovo’s path towards independence.
