A Vancouver-based Indigenous film producer says he was made to feel like a criminal after being turned away from the red carpet at the Cannes film festival — despite being invited to walk it.
His “crime” was wearing traditional moccasins with his tuxedo.
Kelvin Redvers, who is from the Northwest Territories and works in B.C., says he hopes the incident is a learning moment for event organizers. Richard Zussman has more.

Damn, this is global news..?
From the country where there is little outrage and no accountability for mass graves of children. I guess everyone can feel all warm inside knowing he got to wear his moccasins.
Get the feeling someone wearing a dirty, oil stained t-shirt would’ve been turned away too.
awful, I'm so sorry they did that to you!
Hollywood are a bunch of hypocrites…
Sounds like Cannes is full of morons! Someone should be kissing Mr.Redvers “moccasins “ in apology.
That’s the French for you
Nice moccasins. Shoulda just called ahead and presented your case then it was up to Cannes organizers to say yes or no. After all it's a French cultural event and a pretty elitist one at that. Regardless, it's their culture, their tradition and their decision.
Wow 😮
Sounds about white
Moccasins are not traditional dress wear. Just another example of an Indian thinking they're allowed to do whatever they want.
Indigenous Daniel Cumberbatch?
At least they got it right the 2nd time around.
So they literally have fashion police over there in France. This is insulting on so many levels. I'm glad they had a talking to, AND rectified the situation quickly, but it never should have happened in the first place.
BTW I am a First Nations man. We have had enough discrimination in the past. It still happens today, but there is also a surging of sympathy for what we went through and a genuine wanting to rectify it 🙂 I am a proud Canadian, AND Cree Nation man. I would not have changed my footwear, and complained until I was let in. It is much more than footwear, we have already had enough wiping out of our culture. My mom is a Residential School Survivor. I would not dishonor her by willingly removing my rightful heritage.
If he'd have showed up in a ball gown that would have been ok. But no to his traditional moccasins. Would love to see them take on my turban.
Absolutely shocking!! Ban cannes!
Hollywood hypocrisy gone wild – this was an indigenous event.
It seams to me that these last four years have sold out every cause and that we all need to review who we are supporting. Especially if the organization affiliation began before Covid.
There should be an independent film festival. I wouldn’t want to attend that Narcissists gathering anyway, why would you want to put yourself down attending that corrupt organization show?
ok
This guy is lost and trying to sell us on his views! Why wearing a tux while wearing foot wear not fit for a tux! Silly!
Hypocrites, typical French.
unacceptable!!!
Typical lost individual
Haha wear real shoes
With attitude s like that, it's not worth attending.
To be entitled, rules don’t apply to me, I’m indigenous.
We are being told in the West there may well be severe food shortages in Africa and India because of the Ukraine war – and also in America..Could someone please explain to me Why the American Government has written to thousands of their Farmers demanding they Destroy their own food crops AFTER Biden has just announced there will be Food Shortages in America ?
Dress code
What a no story
This is blown out of proportion.
So much for tolerance and acceptance of the different in the countries of "democracy". Nothing new in the west.
I'm glad the hierarchy at Cannes showed some common sense and invited him back, with moccasins, the next day. Cause it's acceptable for women to expose various parts of their anatomy at Cannes and it's considered 'fashionable' and acceptable, but this man, looking classy in a tux while wearing moccasins to highlight his indigenous heritage, is considered to be unacceptably attired. !!!
I never cared about this stupid red carpet tradition anyway… who started it
Western culture and values..i love when they speak to others how civilized they are..lol
Those who oppose him should learn that the red carpet is on their indigenous country which we should respected.
Was he offended 😱???
This is news!
Soo Kim Kartrashians can wear Marilyn Monroe's dress that was clearly to small , she could not Zip it up the back nor could she hardly walk in it wore a fur jacket draping down the back to cover her open back side and people near and far praises her yet this young man could not wear a something representing his culture/heritage and was turned away!?! Make it make sense please ! Yup once again I know for sure this world has flipped upside down 🤨
This fine, charming man's Light won victory over darkness. 🙌 It proves there are still good people out there. The man who didn't let him in should have been fired on the spot! He must've been jealous of his good looks & bright smile. Canada is fundamentally Native. I can't believe how discriminatory the acting business really can be. They allow people in who wear exposing, vulgar garments, showing off their buttocks, but they can't wear these? Glad this man did the right thing & spoke up. Something is not right here. 🤔 These moccasins are BEAUTIFUL! ❤️ 😍
This is still our land.
Strategically planned on his part to gain attention. That's why he purposely didn't put them on until he was through security. The situation could have easily been avoided if only he had requested in advance since the Cannes do have a dress code.
Zelensky came to the Congress of the United States in a sweatshirt
this is just disgusting
Thats crazy this world is evil i hope he is ok and people speak up
