A 39-year-old Singaporean woman, Nur Aisyah, tragically lost her life after a fall from a 30-meter cliff at Minnewaska State Park in New York on Dec. 22. The news sent shockwaves through her family and friends back home, leaving her husband, Abdul Rauf, utterly heartbroken.
Taking to Facebook to share the devastating news, Abdul Rauf recounted their idyllic trip to the US, only to have it shattered by an unimaginable nightmare. He described enjoying the scenery with his wife when the unthinkable happened. “In a blink of an eye,” he wrote, “she was gone.”
Abdul Rauf’s desperate screams for help alerted nearby hikers, who rushed to locate Aisyah. Sadly, by the time emergency personnel arrived and airlifted her to the hospital, it was too late. The rescue efforts, hampered by thick foliage, took almost three agonizing hours.
Through his social media post, Abdul Rauf poured out his grief and apologized for not being there in his wife’s final moments. “Sayang,” he wrote, using the Malay term for “darling,” “I wish I was there, physically by your side… Everyone misses you and loves you.”
Aisyah, along with Abdul Rauf, co-founded the real estate investment firm Noble Sky International.
Remembering Aisyah, Abdul Rauf described her as “faithful, doting, and an animal lover who cared deeply about everyone around her.” Even a brief encounter, he said, would leave you feeling special, touched by her genuine warmth and kindness.
Back in Singapore, Aisyah’s family grapples with the tragic loss. Her sister-in-law, Siti Nurwanti, spoke of the family’s shock and disbelief. “She was an angel loaned to us and taken away too soon,” she said, highlighting Aisyah’s selfless nature and her deep love for family.
Abdul Rauf is currently making arrangements to bring Aisyah’s body back to Singapore, where she will be laid to rest near her late grandmother and mother, the New Straits Times reported.
