Breaking news out of Rome where Pope Francis’ health has deteriorated. After more than a week in hospital, the Vatican says the 88-year-old Pontiff is now in critical condition. In a statement, the Vatican said “The Holy Father’s condition continues to be critical and that he suffered an asthma-like respiratory crisis of prolonged intensity which required the administration of high-flow oxygen. The Pope is not out of danger”
In the Middle East, Hamas is slamming Israel for postponing the release of hundreds of Palestinians in what was supposed to be the largest prisoner-hostage swap under a ceasefire agreement that began last month. Some 620 prisoners were supposed to be freed shortly after six Israeli hostages were released by Hamas earlier today. David Akin has more.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday fired the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General C.Q. Brown, and pushed out five other admirals and generals in an unprecedented shake-up of U.S. military leadership. Trump said in a post on Truth Social that he would nominate former Lt.-Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine to succeed Brown, breaking with tradition by pulling someone out of retirement for the first time to become the top military officer. Candice Cole reports.
