Global National: March 10, 2025 | What Carney did during 1st day as prime minister-designate
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

From U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats against Canada to a looming federal election, prime minister-designate Mark Carney has no shortage of issues to deal with after winning the Liberal leadership race. David Akin looks at what Carney was grilled about, how the Conservatives reacted to Carney’s new job and which ridings he could run in for the next federal election.

Officials from Ukraine and the U.S. are preparing to meet in Saudi Arabia with hopes of repairing their countries’ relationship and working towards a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire. Jackson Proskow looks at what Ukraine may offer, why Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy isn’t attending the talks and how Ukraine is being pressured to make concessions while Russia isn’t.

One person is missing off England’s east coast after a cargo ship collided with a stationary U.S. oil tanker, resulting in a fiery explosion. Redmond Shannon explains which toxic chemicals have spilled into the North Sea and why experts are puzzled about how the collision happened.

Plus, there are questions about how much power the Commonwealth actually has at this time of international instability, especially with U.S. President Donald Trump’s annexation threats against Canada. Heather Yourex-West looks at the subtle ways King Charles is showing his support for Canada.

I feel sorry for the LPC.
They could of won the next federal election by having a woman leading the party.

Instead, they put in a banker.

Canadians do not trust bankers. They view them as thieves that support the top 1%.

During '08, bankers encouraged offshoring jobs. Canadians saw massive job losses while their jobs were shipped overseas.

Canadians will never forget or forgive that.

On top of that, Carney was going to go and work for Goldman Sachs. Before the LPC begged him to run.

Let's think about that for a second. Goldman Sachs was one of the root causes of the 2008 crises. Misleading investors about subprime mortgages and profiting off of the market collapse. Resulting in a $550 million fine. The funny thing is that Goldman Sachs execs get a nearly $1 million yearly salary.

Something tells me banker interests will be front and centre.

Perhaps the ndp will see an uptick in votes. Or perhaps the green party will. We will see less LPC votes, though.

Props to Global, one of the only mainstream news channels I'm seeing actually allow comments on stories covering Carney. Seems the censorship is going pretty hard to cover for him in most places. Even smaller regional channels like CHCH are blocking all comments.

During his victory speech on Sunday, Carney said that he will immediately get rid of the carbon tax. Mark this down as another lie because the carbon tax still exists. Can't trust these Liberals at all.

“Resounding leader” 😂. Sorry, Global, the “Existential threat” to Canada comes from within. The Liberals’ inability to use diplomacy with the US President and instead use retaliatory tariffs against is crazy. Only the Canadian worker will suffer as Carney prints more $$ and pushes Canada towards collapse. TDS in full display.

conservatives do love being hysterical, say how's Milhouse doing? did he get his security clearance yet?

  40. @traviscutler9912 says:

I believe that the fallout from all of these tariffs is going to hurt Canadians very badly, regardless of whoever is in government & they are going to be blamed no matter what they did or didn't do. Therefore, I have a massive concern about the Liberals winning by a hair and then getting slaughtered a few years later by the inevitable massive recession that's coming regardless as to who wins or what agreements they make.

As I personally believe the Trump organization is tanking the economy on purpose for a variety of reasons (homeless people don't protest, bankruptcies make for cheap housing BuyBacks that can be turned into rentals, etc). When that happens, nobody is going to remember that PP is a trump wannabe, as PP will just say that he was right and that if you elect him he can make all of their problems instantly disappear.

You have to remember that most people are borderline mentally challenged and when under duress they will believe any snake oil salesman who promises a better tomorrow, regardless of the obvious faults in their logic. That's why PP needs to win a minority government, if he does, then he has to work with the NDP which more or less guarantees that he can't do anything crazy and PP will own the inevitable recession. This will inevitably give enough room to the Liberals so that they can credibly say things have changed and Carney can come back with standard neoliberalism, Rather than PP's hyper neoconservatism that sells out the larger Canadian economy, all for oil and resource extraction.

I can't stress this enough, if Carney wins and eeks out a 3 or 4-year government, he is going to own the inevitable massive decline in the standard of living of Canadians. When that happens, all of the sad, stupid desperate people who watch the world's most concentrated media of billionaires in the world. Will eventually elect PP in a electoral super majority that allows him to ram through every single possible horrific, conservative wet fever dream, I'm talking destroying all of the CBC, bring back the death penalty for fentanyl dealers, life sentences for drug offenses, DOGE'ing the federal government, a complete militarization of the Canadian Army where we buy f-35s that don't actually work to the tune of trillions, dissolution of the FPCC (Farm Products Council of Canada) and the further erosion of our farming communities, 100's of billions of oil infrastructure investment for a single province and a Doug Ford style privatization of Canada's healthcare to "take pressure off healthcare" by allowing the wealthy to skip the line as the rest of our wait times increase as a result & our quality of care declines because when rich people aren't forced to use the same system as the rest of us, they will defund it accordingly, etc…..

The sad reality is Canadians have to be forced to deal with PP's charm offensive on a nightly basis for at least a couple years in order for Canadians to understand what they're buying before he gets a majority government which will 110% f**** happen. If Carney wins he has to wear the the inevitable recession that Trump has planned for the world & PP will eventually be able to tear up any agreement Carney made & sell out Canadian workers to the American Corporations like they did for NAFTA.

That's why I'm telling everyone I know to vote their conscience, that means Greens, NDP and god help us all, the PPC.
Anything short of that? And they're going to make Cruella Deville Milhouse into Thanos and I'm really not okay with that. Unfortunately, PP is like an STD, it's going to sting for awhile doing our business but it will run its course & we can get back to the usual slow decent into Neoliberalism's boarded up main Street hellscape rather than PP hoisting a 51st flag over Parliament. Not a great choice BUT definitely one with real consequences we need to consider.
    The system works.

What about freedom fridays and Canada evidence act – presumption of ill founded view in law and leg 🦵 isolators is not rational or logical in governance. Or the right to be informed for all Canadians with irrational perspectives and the narcotic control act in business education and the bank of Canada. I’ll bet one “loonie” with a loon and Queen Elizabeth II you don’t understand corporation charter in business with “roots” in fashion trade and exchange or were my clothes made by a child today and environment acts. Ontario didn't cave. Doug Ford literally PAUSED the tariffs on energy until the meeting that Howard Lutnick BEGGED him for because Trump had a meltdown over. Ford CLEARLY stated if America doesn't cooperate, the energy tariff is BACK ON THE TABLE. DO your homework before running your goofy mouth. Ford is very much willing and able to pull the plug, so don't get cocky

🇨🇦 Synopsis of Pierre Poilievre's voting record:

    ● He voted gainst raising the minimum wage
    ● He voted against $10 a day childcare
    ● He voted against the child benefit
    ● He voted against dental care for kids
    ● He voted against middle class tax cuts
    ● He voted against increased support for seniors
    ● He voted to ban abortions
    ● He voted to cancel Veterans Disability
    ● He voted against workers rights
    ● He voted against housing initiatives
    ● He voted to raise the retirement age to 67
    ● He voted to slash OAS/CPP
    ● He voted in favour of scabs crossing picket lines
    ● He has consistently refused security clearance. WHY??
    ● He voted against aid for Ukraine
    ● He voted to cancel school lunch programs for children experiencing poverty

In addition to those political actions against seemingly ANYTHING that would make living in Canada better for all Canadians, he has been working contrary to our best interest in other ways, too:

    ● He has instructed his MPs to keep silent on gay rights. (It is the opinion of Democracy Inc. that LGBTQIA2S human rights will be seriously compromised if Poilievre becomes PM.)
    ● He uttered not a word about the death of Navalny in Russia
    ● He couldn't care less about the climate
    ● He's been flying all over the country to put himself into power, on our dime
    ● He shamelessly lies and misinforms
    ● He has vowed to "wield the notwithhstanding clause" if he deems it necessary, thereby taking away our charter rights
    ● He has publicly stated that he does not support Pharmacare and Dentalcare, the lack of which was enriching insurance companies
    ● He supplied coffee and donuts to the Trucker Convoy, which was funded by MAGA and Russia, and befriended its organizers. (No wonder he voted against aid to Ukraine)
    ● He advocated replacing Canadian currency with Bitcoin, which is unregulated and has no intrinsic value
    ● He scapegoated Trudeau for causing inflation, while inflation was global and Canada had one of the lowest rates in the world
    ● He scapegoated Trudeau for causing the interest rate hikes, knowing full well that Trudeau has zero power or influence over the Bank of Canada
    ● He constantly scapegoats Trudeau by falsely claiming (lying) that the air pollution fines are the main driver of inflation in Canada, even though he KNOWS that that is completely false and has been proven so
    ● He advocated for making drug addicts die sooner rather than later with forced rehab (It doesn't work unless an addict WANTS to get clean, and requires violating two different human rights)
    ● He clearly stated that he intends to implement MASSIVE austerity cuts and measures on pretty much ALL federal gov't spending, which would be EXTREMELY harmful, disastrous, destructive, and deadly!
    ● He has publicly stated that he will defund the CBC
    ● He has consistently demeaned journalists who ask salient questions, but will grant interviews to persons of the extreme right, such as Jordan Peterson.

    It's obvious: Pierre Poilievre is anti-Canadian. 😡
