The trade deficit exists, not because of tariffs, but because 41 million Canadians simply cannot buy as much as the people of the United States who have 10 times the population of Canada. As a Canadian I can assure Americans that Canadians are indeed their friends, unfortunately, President [ 'Governor' ] Trump has made it abundantly clear that he is no friend of Canada or the Canadian people. Why would Canadians have any trust in, or respect for, a US president who acts in the manner that President Trump does? Before we discuss trade between our respective countries, or anything else for that matter, the American president must first respect the sovereignty of Canada and the Canadian people. Without question, President Trump is responsible for both the trade war and the chaos it has caused, in Canada, Europe and elsewhere in the world. Canada must now look to other countries for trade and economic prosperity.
