Ontario ice storm: Hundreds of thousands without power as system moves East
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Freezing rain that coated parts of Ontario in thick layers of ice, downing branches and power lines, left hundreds of thousands of residents without electricity on Sunday as the storm headed east.

More than 350,000 customers were affected by outages early Sunday afternoon, according to Hydro One, Ontario’s provincial utility, and some residents said they couldn’t imagine the lights coming back any time soon.

“At the very end of our driveway, we had a hydro pole completely ripped in half because trees went down and took the wires down,” said Janelle Baker, who lives outside of Bracebridge, Ont., and lost power early Saturday morning.

“Our driveway and our road are completely impassable at this point.”
Baker said she spent Saturday night listening to the sounds of trees crashing down.

Global News Meteorologist Anthony Farnell reports.

See I know I know I like power hooked up but if all places living projects as apartments houses etc., were independant as power and water and heat and all reinforced with new age tech as we see will be getting higher ratios of weather mishaps and could start to redesign areas towns City's and have independant versions and City's also could get independant as power water and heat with connected as services if ever needed through out the network needed as connected within independent living projects assisted as now carrier in water power and heat but on another level progressing with new state of servicing when needed since we will have more weather changes that would need in redevelopments of living spaces independently on that hooked connected level with water, power and heat independently connected networked state. Gist only, but imagine the idea.

This should serve as a reminder why we have to reject the insane idea of a fully digital and electric society.

You would think a responsible "News" outlet would highlight the obviously irresponsible and dangerous situations that Green energy will create? Are they afraid to mention it? Have they been told not to mention it?

A lot of people don't realize that when there's a power outage, the cell service will also be diminished after a few hours. Cell towers have backup batteries that are only good for a little while. So keep that old landline with a corded phone.

This all could have been largely prevented by managing the overgrown trees?
What is going on? How stupid can it get? Look at all of the trees that obviously shoul have been cut back. Is this going to continue to happen?

I remember the bad spring ice storm in 1974. Close Toronto in Northbound regions for several days
