B.C.’s newest multi-millionaire wiped away tears on Thursday as he received his prize money.
Justin Simporios won the $80-million Lotto Max jackpot from the May 9, draw. This is the largest lottery jackpot ever won in B.C. and is also the largest jackpot ever won by a single individual in Canada.
“I just can’t help my tears,” Simporios said.
“It’s an amazing feeling. It’s real, it’s sinking in now, but it’s life-changing, right? It’s just too much right now, but thank you so much, thank you. It’s not sad tears, it is happy tears.”
Simporios said last Friday that he was planning to have burgers for dinner with his wife and daughter but needed to pick up buns and cheese.
He noticed at the Central City Walmart that they also sold lottery tickets so he bought a $12 quick pick.
Simporios shares what happened when he learned he was the sole jackpot winner.

August 7 2025: Michigan Lottery stole my ticket and wont return it to its legal owner. The ticket is the actual bearer instrument and is way more valuable on its own. Its absolute theft and should not be tolerated. Return the ticket to its rightful owner or pay the money to relinquish ownership.
There’s a “raffle” on Facebook claiming to be choosing families to help, but the page only has 15 followers and I believe it’s probably a scam. It just posts photos from this video and clips from this video. Then says “page responded privately” when people comment.
It’s asking for people’s stories and said he will choose people to help that way but they are probably just trying to ask for people’s banking info in order to pretend to help. Beware
I know he said he will help others and will definitely help through charities but the Facebook page created last month is likely a scam
