An asteroid once considered a threat to Earth is now on a potential collision course to the Moon.
NASA says the object has just over a four per cent chance of impacting the Moon, seven years from now.
Though the odds may seem small, scientists warn that the damage could be significant.
Vincent McAviney reports on why the space agency says this risk is no longer trivial.

Not a threat if itโs set to hit the moon. Literally happens all the time.
It will push the moon away than we wonโt be able to get there again ๐๐๐๐
NASA warning us like we can do something about it
Fire the Exipse cannon Eggman!
We rarely have a chance to test if we can really divert the asteroids posing a danger to us, so we should really put money in for a operation as the man said, to learn for the future.
Why is the news always in Australian these days? It used to be in English.
This is a good chance to test asteroid deflection
1 km in diameter? do you know how small that is? the crater is barely even gonna be visible from Earth. biggest craters on the moon are like 900-1000 km in diameter so its gonna be like a speck of dust compared to a pebble
Why consider it a threat ?
So we can see this asteroid from ages away but cant see a flag on the moon….. yeah right
Are there any cities on the moon?
Oh no! Warn the Lunar Colonies
Big deal ! We got bigger problems here on earth.
That would be fun to watch
I AM THE QUEEN ๐ ETCETERAS ๐
So when do we save the moon?… โก๐๐๐๐๐โก
Stop.
In the movie "Moon Zero Two" an asteroid is deliberately crashed into the Earths moon for profit.
I really want to see a live video of an asteroid hitting a celestial body… Preferably not Earth, moons a much better target. Wouldn't that be so dope to see???
Yeah right
