Indonesia, France boost film cooperation at Networking Night

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Culture held the French–Indonesia Film Networking Night on Wednesday, bringing together film industry players from both countries to follow up on cooperation opportunities in the film sector with France.

“I hope this event can facilitate idea exchanges, networking, strengthen discussions, and pave the way for fruitful collaboration between us,” Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said in a statement released on Thursday.

During the recent meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron in Magelang, Central Java, Zon signed a letter of intent (LoI) with the French Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC).

The LoI aims to expand opportunities for young people, creative talents, and institutions in both countries. Through the networking night, the ministry aims to strengthen collaboration with CNC through key initiatives in the film and visual sector.

These initiatives include co-productions of feature films, animation, documentaries, and immersive formats, as well as residency and fellowship programs for filmmakers, animators, and visual artists.

They also include professional exchanges and technical training, especially in CGI, VFX, and immersive media, along with curatorial collaborations for festivals and galleries in both France and Indonesia.

The collaboration is further expected to cover academic exchanges between film schools and media institutions in both countries, as well as digital distribution partnerships through platforms, online festivals, and new formats.

It would also include joint funding schemes to support cross-cultural and experimental projects; location promotion and studio collaborations for international productions; and creative networking platforms and industry forums to connect professionals across disciplines.

It would further feature the Producers Lab program to support project incubation, mentorship, and access to the global market. The minister said he believes these initiatives will deepen institutional relations and strengthen the bond between the Indonesian and French people through culture, knowledge, and creativity.

He also expressed hope of maintaining this momentum through Indonesia’s participation in the Cultural Summit in Paris, hosted by French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati. The summit will coincide with Bastille Day, which President Prabowo is scheduled to attend as guest of honor.

“We are ready to share knowledge and collaborate on the power of culture. Together, we can transform the cultural industry into peace, resilience, and shared prosperity that transcends national boundaries and generations,” Zon said.
