RI mourns, slams Israel for killing Gaza Indonesian Hospital Director

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry has expressed its condolences over the death of Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, Director of the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, who was killed in an Israeli air strike on Wednesday.

“Indonesia mourns the death of the director of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza, Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, along with his family, on July 2, 2025, and condemns the Israeli attack,” the ministry stated in a written statement on Thursday.

The ministry praised Dr. Marwan’s commitment and perseverance in serving humanity and working for peace in Palestine.

Meanwhile, the ministry affirmed that it would continue to closely monitor the situation at the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza amid Israeli aggression that shows no sign of stopping.

“Indonesia also calls for Israel to cease its violence and for a ceasefire to be implemented immediately in Palestine,” the Foreign Ministry added.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, his wife, and his children were killed in an Israeli attack on an apartment building in western Gaza. Their bodies were taken to Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital.

The Indonesian humanitarian organization MER-C confirmed that Dr. Marwan and his family were killed by direct Israeli strikes on their residence.

“A total of nine Palestinians were martyred in the attack, while others were injured,” MER-C said on social media.

As the last hospital operating in northern Gaza, the Indonesian Hospital has been under constant attack by Zionist forces since the start of the Gaza offensive on October 7, 2023.

Most recently, the hospital was attacked by Israel in May, causing major structural damage and severely hindering health services for the remaining Palestinians in the region.

Meanwhile, over 56,500 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed, and more than 133,000 others injured in Israel’s ongoing assault on the blockaded enclave.
