Indonesia’s PMI sustains clean water support for Gaza Palestine

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and partners continue distributing clean water to Palestine, especially to the hardest-hit areas of Khan Younis and North Gaza.

“The situation in Gaza is deeply concerning. PMI and its partners continue to deliver aid, including clean water, to those affected. We urge Indonesians to continue showing solidarity, as every form of support means a lot to those trying to survive,” said PMI Secretary General A.M. Fachir in a statement received on Friday.

Fachir noted that demand for clean water in North and South Gaza remains extremely high, with 1,622 kilometers of water networks damaged and over 2,523 wells destroyed.

Since October 2023, more than 2.3 million people in Gaza have been suffering from a deepening humanitarian crisis.

“There has been systematic destruction of food sources, agriculture, clean water facilities, and prolonged restrictions in border areas, leading to tragic living conditions for Gazans,” he said.

Recent data show that 75 percent—or 11,293 hectares—of Gaza’s 15,053 hectares of agricultural land have been destroyed, and more than 96 percent of livestock wiped out.

Moreover, Fachir pointed out that food prices have skyrocketed by between 400 percent and 2,600 percent. Many subsidized bread factories have ceased operating due to severe fuel and flour shortages.

“Hunger has started to claim lives. To date, more than 58 people are reported to have died from hunger, including 53 children,” he said.

He also highlighted data indicating that around 3,500 children are suffering from acute malnutrition. On April 25, the World Food Programme announced that all its food stock in Gaza had run out.

In response, PMI, along with partners such as Wakaf Salman, Gazze Destek Dernegi (GDD), and the Palestine Red Crescent Society, continues distributing clean water to communities in need.

Fachir stressed that this initiative is part of PMI’s commitment to support Palestinians during an ongoing emergency that shows no signs of improving.

He called on Indonesians to continue offering their support and prayers so that humanitarian aid can keep reaching Palestinians, especially children, who are among the most vulnerable victims of the crisis.
