“There are several flagship products that we can promote to the European market. The European market strongly emphasizes the aspect of sustainability, which includes renewable energy,” she informed here on Monday.
In addition, she said that the sustainability aspect can also become a selling point for Indonesian beauty products made from organic ingredients.
So far, Indonesia’s most popular export commodity to the European Union has been footwear, followed by furniture, Putri noted.
She expressed the hope that Indonesian exports to the EU would be made more diverse and continue to embrace the value of sustainability in the future.
The deputy minister said that the trade pact, which involved decade-long negotiations, offers Indonesia an alternative amid global uncertainty.
She further said that the trade deal has led the European Union to ease its stance on the implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) on Indonesian products.
“It is a positive sign. With this easing stance (by the European Union), it means there was a compromise in the negotiation process that we must appreciate, and hopefully, it will be good for Indonesia,” she added.
Earlier, Trade Minister Budi Santoso said that the EU has softened its stance on enforcing the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), likely reflecting its willingness to build a long-term partnership with Indonesia.
He noted that the wrapping up of the Indonesia-EU CEPA will open new opportunities for expanding Indonesia’s export markets.
Once market access is widened through the trade deal, Indonesian business players must increase their exports to Europe, he added.
