Indonesia, Türkiye partner to boost Navy ship standards

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Defense has partnered with Türkiye to enhance vessel certification and technical standards in a move to strengthen the country’s maritime defense capabilities.

The collaboration took shape during a meeting between Deputy Defense Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto, Chairman of the Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI) Admiral (Ret.) Marsetio, and representatives from Türk Loydu at the Ministry of Defense Office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (July 15).

Head of the Defense Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Frega Ferdinand Wenas explained in Jakarta on Wednesday that Türk Loydu is Türkiye’s national classification society recognized internationally for ship certification and technical standards.

BKI, on the other hand, is a state-owned enterprise specializing in ship classification and standardization for vessels operating in Indonesian waters.

Frega expressed hope that the partnership between BKI and Türk Loydu would enhance the quality standards of the Indonesian Navy’s patrol and combat vessels.

“Both parties agreed to support the increase of local content (TKDN) in Indonesian Navy vessels through collaboration between BKI and Türk Loydu,” Frega said.

He added that the partnership would also include educational sessions on global maritime regulations.

The cooperation is expected to improve the standards and operational readiness of the Indonesian Navy’s warships (KRI).

Additionally, Frega said the partnership is also aimed at strengthening diplomatic and defense ties between Indonesia and Türkiye.
