He delivered the remarks at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Wednesday, after returning from his overseas tour, in response to a question about Indonesia’s decision to remove all tariff and non-tariff barriers for US goods.
“We have calculated everything, we have discussed everything. For me, my people are the most important. I have to protect our workers,” he said.
The President emphasized that although Indonesia is open to economic cooperation, there are still boundaries and national interests that must be safeguarded.
“This is our offer; we cannot afford to offer more,” he said.

President Prabowo also expressed optimism about the national economy, which he described as strong and stable. “Our economy is in strong condition, in good condition. So whatever happens, we will be strong,” he said.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that he and Prabowo had reached a deal that “opens up Indonesia’s entire market to the United States for the first time in history.”
He stated that the agreement stipulates Indonesia will pay a 19-percent tariff on every product it exports to the US, while US exports to Indonesia will be exempt from tariff and non-tariff barriers.
Trump further highlighted that Indonesia has committed to purchasing energy worth US$15 billion, importing agricultural products worth US$4.5 billion, and procuring 50 Boeing aircraft from the US.
President Prabowo landed back in Jakarta on Wednesday after wrapping up his official tour to Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Belgium, France, and Belarus, which began on July 1, 2025.
