Rio De Janeiro (ANTARA) – President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua met with representatives of media think tanks from Russia, Vietnam, Cuba, and other countries on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The participants held in-depth exchanges on topics such as deepening cooperation among media think tanks in the Global South and strengthening its momentum toward greater BRICS cooperation and development.

Fu welcomed the representatives to the BRICS Media and Think Tank Forum, noting that China shares longstanding friendly relations and a solid foundation for cooperation with Russia, Vietnam, Cuba, and other countries.

Looking ahead, Xinhua is willing to work with partners from various countries to broaden cooperation, innovate collaboration models, and enhance coordination under multilateral mechanisms, Fu said.

He added that Xinhua aims to collaborate with its partners to present a vivid narrative of international development and cooperation, contributing to amplifying the voice of the Global South and building a more just and diverse global communication order.

Mikhail Gusman, First Deputy Director-General of TASS Russian News Agency, said TASS is ready to strengthen cooperation with Xinhua through platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Media and Think Tank Forum and the BRICS Media and Think Tank Forum. The goal is to jointly build a narrative system from the Global South’s perspective and enhance the presence and influence of developing countries in international affairs.

Alexey Nikolov, Managing Editor of Russia Today (RT), said RT values its friendly ties with Xinhua and looks forward to implementing the strategic consensus reached by the two heads of state. RT will continue to deepen exchanges, expand cooperation with Xinhua, and help promote the steady development of multilateral media mechanisms and international influence.

Ta Minh Tuan, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, expressed his appreciation for the forum and said it provides an opportunity to institutionalize and regularize cooperation with Xinhua. He emphasized the importance of raising the collective voice of the Global South on the global stage and sustaining momentum for expanded BRICS cooperation.

Maryde Fernández López, Deputy Head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, along with representatives of several Cuban media outlets, expressed gratitude to Xinhua for its commitment to objective and fair reporting and its contributions to amplifying Latin America’s true voice.

The Cuban representatives also expressed interest in learning from Xinhua’s experience with new technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data. They agreed that renewing and updating bilateral news cooperation agreements will enhance media exchanges between Latin America and China and deepen mutual understanding among the people.
