According to Head of Public Relations for the Denpasar Police, Adjunct Commissioner (AKP) Ketut Sukadi, the foreign national not only stole the money but also assaulted an employee at the money changer, located at the Aura Segara Villa on Jalan Banjar Segara Kuta, Badung, Bali, on July 27.
“The total amount of money stolen by the perpetrator was 191,150,000 rupiahs. The perpetrator strangled and held the victim, then took the money from the table and fled,” Sukadi explained.
Sukadi detailed the incident, stating that the suspect initially contacted an operator at PT. Arta Jaya Dewata to exchange 12,000 US dollars.
The suspect asked for the money to be delivered to Aura Segara Villa on Jalan Segara Merta, Tuban, Kuta, Badung.
Subsequently, two employees, Moch Ezekiel Tan and M Faisal, transported 191,150,000 rupiahs to the specified villa.
Upon their arrival and after counting the money, a foreign accomplice of the perpetrator, claiming to be from Interpol, arrived and immediately attacked the two employees.
This forced the employees to flee, leaving the money behind.
However, as they attempted to escape, one of the employees rammed the perpetrators’ motorcycle, causing it to fall and scattering hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash across the road.
Residents and Kuta Police officers apprehended the perpetrators, though one accomplice managed to escape. Following interrogation, the Azerbaijani national confessed to the crime.
The arrested individual revealed that he carried out the crime with a friend named Johny, whose nationality has not yet been disclosed by the police. Johny managed to escape during the incident.
“The motive was economic, to meet the necessities of life,” Sukadi concluded.
