The cooperation was agreed upon during a meeting between Sjamsoeddin and Turkish Secretary of Defense Industries, Haluk Görgün, on the sidelines of the 2025 International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) in Istanbul on July 26.
According to an official press release from the Ministry of Defense on Monday, the two leaders discussed several plans for cooperation in the defense equipment sector.
“The two sides discussed strategic cooperation encompassing technology transfer, joint research, and defense equipment production to enhance military technological capacity,” Brigadier General Frega Wenas Inkiriwang, head of the defense information bureau of the ministry’s General Secretariat, confirmed in Jakarta on Monday.
However, Inkiriwang did not clarify whether the Ministry of Defense discussed plans to purchase new defense equipment during the meeting.
He said that the two parties also discussed opportunities for collaboration that could positively impact the development of the national defense industry.
In addition to the defense industry and defense equipment technology, the ministry also opened opportunities for defense cooperation in other areas, such as military exercises and soldier exchanges for military education.
He expressed the hope that, with the collaboration, Indonesia’s defense would become stronger with new defense equipment technology, and bilateral ties between Indonesia and Turkey would become stronger.
