Tonga, Fiji, and the Cook Islands have all downgraded their tsunami warnings, saying there is “no longer a tsunami threat”.
However Samoa’s Disaster Management Office has kept a tsunami watch in place, according to its latest social media update.
Similarly the southern California coast is no longer under any tsunami warnings with the advisory previously in place from the California-Mexico border to Rincon Point, now cancelled according to the National Tsunami Warning Centre.
The north coast of the state from Rincon Point to Humboldt still has a warning in place.
Meanwhile, Chilean authorities have issued a tsunami warning for Easter Island and asked residents to evacuate to safe zones.
The country’s national emergency services have also upgraded Chile’s tsunami warning to its highest level possible for the entire length of its Pacific coast, prompting the closure of schools and businesses.
