“Regarding the IEU-CEPA, we believe that all the documents will be finalized in September,” he said at a press conference on the EU visa cascade launch in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to Hartarto, with the inauguration of the cascade system, the impact of the IEU-CEPA will be greater for Indonesian business players.
“Moreover, the IEU-CEPA will be in effect; hopefully, it can be accelerated to next year,” the minister added.

Earlier on July 13, 2025, President Prabowo Subianto and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the completion of negotiations on the Indonesia-EU CEPA at a joint press conference at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.
“Today, we have achieved a breakthrough. After 10 years of negotiations, we have concluded a comprehensive economic partnership agreement, which basically is a free trade agreement,” Prabowo said.
He then affirmed that both Indonesia and the EU agreed on all points of the agreement.
On the same occasion, von der Leyen noted that Indonesia and the EU have reached a political agreement on the CEPA.
She said that there is a lot of untapped potential in the trade relationship between the two parties. Thus, the CEPA has come at the right time as it will open new markets and create new opportunities, she added.
