Ford tells Carney not to “roll over” to Trump on US-Canada trade deal
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ontario Premier Doug Ford spoke on Thursday about his hopes and expectations for a trade deal between the U.S. and Canada. Ford said while Prime Minister Mark Carney is “trying his best,” to deal with Donald Trump, he shouldn’t “roll over” and instead, “hit that guy back as hard as we possibly can.”

Ford highlighted the importance of “onshoring” everything we can in Canada, such as rails, beams, and aluminum cans.

‘We’re going to win this thing… One way or another, we aren’t going to go down and we aren’t going to roll over. We’ll keep fighting every single day. So thank you for getting me ramped up like this,” he told reporters.

Doug Ford is the person, who can lead Canada for better future. I was against him initially, I am typical so called intellectual of downtown Toronto with leftist ideas, but in this present world situation, Doug Ford with clear mind and strong attitude is the right person for higher responsibility He is needed to lead the whole country

I don't trust Doug Ford. This guy is a liar and so is Mark Carney. And they want Canadians to buy Canadian products and produce them here, but these corporations and governments will continue to overcharge consumers, despite the products made in Canada.

What's to stop the U.S. from ramping up production on their own aluminum industry, or buying it from Norway, Japan, Argentina, China, and other aluminum producers? It may be Canadian aluminum was merely a convenience.

So sad to see the cheapening and bankrupting of the U.S. Even sadder that it's affecting other countries and making it impossible to deal with major issues. Happily buying my delicious Canadian produce.

I don’t mean to be a negative person but has Doug Ford seen the unemployment rate in Ontario?, Doug certainly likes to talk but he’s not creating more jobs in Ontario, he’s driving businesses out of Ontario and maybe Carney included, are not creating more jobs in Canada. I wish Doug Ford would just stfu,. Maybe Doug should be answering this question… why are so many Canadians who are born and raised here losing their jobs but new comers get jobs?

So I guess all it takes to be considered Canadian is hating Trump…as if he’s the reason our country is falling apart. Immigration, an artificially propped up housing market, we produce nothing, we have stagflation, our infamous refusal to push back against any sort of government overreach, not to mention we are a welfare state, with policies in place to combat the effects of capitalism…. these may have had a worse effect on our country than a 25% tariff that got boomers all enraged.

Our Prime Minister already was planning with his connections, before running. Weather PM Carney was elected or not he was planning for the country he loves. PM Carney knows, like most Canadians to walk silently, but carry a big stick. You don't have to tell him not to roll over, he's already proven that he's not. PM Carney is not a politician he is the MAN. The one we need to see us through. With the respect he has world wide. Thank you PM Carney. We don't have to tell you not to back down.
You knew how to behave, dealing with a bully. Others would have taken the bait. Or maybe even sold us out. Not on purpose, but because of your financial planning and connections and respect.

    HA!
I was scrolling for something to watch, and I read the title on this one ….. good grief. Ford? telling Carney? what Carney should or should not do? — oh, like, when he wanted Canada to stop dealing with Mexico? Or, when he agreed to do business with a company (with a deal that lasts 99 years) where the company didn't even exist?

I'm debating whether to actually watch this clip.

We are NORTH of 85% OF zero tarrifs.
If you drop the supply Management of the Agriculture Food Products Trump will drop down to 15%
He will adjust the Auto Tarrif.
    Remember With respect to Metals.
Iron Ore From Ontario and with out Boxite From Sask there is No Aluminium.
Get rid of The Cdn Supply Management.
You are killing The Cdn House Wife at the dinner table.

  33. @DarinEvoy says:

These tariffs were put in place because the US government (Trump) believes that the trade deficit with Canada is bad for the United States.
Does anyone in the United States own a calculator?
US has a population of 340 million and imports 418 Billion worth of goods from Canada which equals $1,229 / person.
Canada has a population of 41 million and imports 350 Billion worth of goods from the United States which equals $8,526 / person.

Therefore the true imbalance is that Canadians purchase close to 7 times more US products that Americans purchase of Canadian products.

Isn't this a great thing for the US…….?

  36. @Interbeing_CDN says:

Ford is delusional, Canada has never been more divided. Alienation of the Western provinces is to the point that they are actively discussing separation and Quebec is also openly talking about separation again as well. Canadians are not happy with the way things are going at all. The US wants a fair trade deal and with Carney continuing to insist that Canada can maintain it’s tariffs and trade barriers while having the US provide Canada unfettered access to the US leaves nothing for the US to negotiate for, thus the reason for the negotiation impasse. Until Carney steps up to the negotiating table with everything on the table, there can be no deal. At this point Carney truly has been "Trumped", and instead of being a tough negotiator, he has shown himself, and his cabinet, to be totally inept, at the expense of Canadian prosperity and long term trade opportunities afforded because of it's history of American market access. It's really unfortunate to be in this situation now, and it is truly pathetic to see Carney and the HOC go out on vacation at such a critical time. Canada deserves much better leadership. Until Carney and Ford stop their rooster strutting and get serious about trade negotiations, the US has no choice but to move on and develop it's domestic industry to protect it's own interests.

All I’m going to say is all other countries have made a deal with Trump. Nothing is a bad deal, it’s a renegotiation. Trump wanted better border security, instead we ignored him then went put tariffs on goods that are part of CUSMA not Trump,He did it legally! It was carney that said he would have the trade war ended by July 16 and it hasn’t. This is his plan, not talks, bury Canada in subsidies and he profits. Wake up. He also tariffs Canadians through Carbon Tac

Good for your Canadiens. While you’re suffering, Carney made about 40% profit from his US owned investments. Up your elbows and bend your knees. Canada, you lose.
