Indonesia expands industry ties to improve vocational skills

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has signed a cooperation agreement with several businesses and industries to strengthen the integration of vocational education.

Director General of Vocational Education, Special Education, and Special Service Education, Tatang Muttaqin, said on Thursday that the partnership is aimed at fostering high-quality, globally competent vocational talent.

He emphasized that the partnership is not merely about ensuring job opportunities after graduation.

“It is more about building synergy from the very beginning, within the educational process itself, so that every step of the learning process is truly relevant, applicable, and future-oriented,” Muttaqin said.

Through collaboration with industry, he said, it is hoped that vocational graduates will not only master technical skills, but also develop critical thinking, collaboration abilities, and the resilience needed to navigate an ever-changing job market.

From the industry’s perspective, the collaboration could help secure a sustainable pool of skilled workers, particularly in fast-growing sectors such as technology and digital industries, he noted.

Muttaqin called on all stakeholders to strengthen cooperation to ensure vocational education remains aligned with industry needs.

“Let’s collaborate to create vocational graduates who are not only work-ready, but also ready to compete globally,” he said.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Courses and Training at the ministry, Saryadi, said that the strategic partnership will cover curriculum development and alignment, as well as competency development for students, teachers, and instructors.

It will also include the provision of industrial facilities and infrastructure, support for fieldwork practices and internships, competency certification, graduate recruitment, and joint publication and communication initiatives.

Saryadi noted that the agreement is relevant not only to the Directorate of Courses and Training, but also to other units within the Directorate General of Vocational Education, Special Education, and Special Service Education.

He added that the cooperation agreement is intended to ensure the sustainability of existing programs, with consistent implementation, adequate resources, and progress monitoring through a joint evaluation mechanism.

Six industries signed the cooperation agreement in Jakarta: Tera Data Indonusa (Axioo), Akademi Kopi Indonesia, Metier Academy (ESMOD), Sasana Solusi Digital, Amal Khair Yasmin Foundation (Aflatoun), and Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia.
