“This activity aims to maintain food price stability while ensuring rice availability for border communities at affordable prices,” Bengkayang District Head Sebastianus Darwis said.
The initiative reflects the local government’s concrete efforts to help residents cope with fluctuations in staple food prices, he said.
“Through this Affordable Food Program, we ensure that rice is available at prices people can afford. We hope this initiative will ease the burden on residents while helping to curb regional inflation,” he added.
SPHP rice is being sold at Rp60,000 per 5-kg package, below current market prices. The operation comes amid seasonal transitions and growing demand, both of which typically drive up food costs.
The district administration is partnering with state logistics agency Perum Bulog to ensure smooth distribution across urban and rural areas.
Local police and sub-district governments are also involved to ensure targeted, transparent delivery.

Darwis stressed that Bengkayang, as a border region, is more vulnerable to food price fluctuations, making government intervention essential.
“We do not want people in border areas to face difficulties accessing rice at fair prices,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Bengkayang Industry and Trade Office Magdalena said market operations will continue to be held regularly at several locations, especially in areas prone to price increases.
She added that the program also involves the Bengkayang District Family Welfare Movement (PKK), which actively supports outreach to ensure the public is well informed about SPHP rice prices and distribution points.
Magdalena expressed hope that residents would remain calm in facing food price dynamics, while local purchasing power, particularly in border areas, could be sustained.
