Travel warnings not affecting Indonesia’s tourism industry: Legislator
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Jakarta (ANTARA) – House of Representatives (DPR) member, Siti Mukaromah, expressed optimism that the travel warnings issued by several countries for Indonesia will not significantly impact the tourism industry.

According to her, tourism activities in various destinations such as Bali and West Nusa Tenggara continue to run normally, indicating minimal impact from the advisories.

“Travel warnings are advisories meant to remind foreign nationals to remain cautious. They are different from travel bans, which prohibit travel to certain areas,” Mukaromah said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

For reference, several countries including Australia, France, and Singapore have recently issued travel advisories for Indonesia amid widespread demonstrations in Jakarta and other regions.

Mukaromah stated that the situation in Indonesia is gradually stabilizing, and she believes those countries will soon lift their advisories.

The lifting of such advisories, she said, would positively influence the movement within the tourism sector, which would create a domino positive effect benefiting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as the creative economy.

“(Amid) the rise in unemployment, these sectors can offer alternative solutions for communities to improve their household economies,” she added.

It is known that a number of countries, including the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, France, Japan, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, and Canada, have issued travel warnings for their citizens residing in or planning to visit Indonesia.

Earlier, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Anindya Bakrie expressed confidence that stability in the country will soon be restored.

National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo has also said that his side is working to restore security, ensure public order, and return economic and social activity to normal.
