A recent episode of controversial cartoon South Park that mocked Charlie Kirk will reportedly be pulled from reruns by Comedy Central in the US.
Variety first reported the news, while CNN said a source confirmed the episode would remain available for streaming on Paramount+, where it is available in Australia.
The episode, “Got A Nut”, involves South Park Elementary School students including the central (and generally villainous) character Eric Cartman becoming right-wing influencers.
Kirk is directly referenced in the name of an award given to “master debaters”.
South Park has until recently preferred to avoid the topic of Trump, going to such lengths as mocking him through a proxy by using one of their own characters as a stand-in.
But this latest season has been a full-tilt assault on the Trump White House, provoking anger, scorn, and from some, attempts to play along.
Kirk was among the latter, using an image from the episode mocking him as an avatar on some of his social media profiles.
“It’s kinda funny, and it kinda goes to show the cultural impact and the resonance that our movement has been able to achieve. I look at this as a badge of honour,” he told Fox News after the episode aired.
