The Louvre museum in Paris is closed after a heist on Sunday morning.
The French interior ministry says a number of people broke into the Apollo Gallery via a mechanised lift and took jewels. The thieves are said to have been carrying small chainsaws and escaped on a scooter.
The French government says the items taken are of ‘incalculable’ value but that no injuries were reported and an investigation is under way.
Culture Minister Rachida Dati told French TV that in their haste to flee, one stolen item was found underneath the Louvre.

A completely Bunkerized museum would considerably reduce access to the works and the interest of the place which is above all an authentic former royal palace. The management of the Louvre must take more drastic surveillance measures while maintaining all these balances.

It's reported a Cat burglar in a pink boiler suit was seen decending on a drain pipe. The ones coming down the ladder were window cleaners.
