Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia affirmed its role in Islamic labor diplomacy through the signing of the OIC Labour Centre Statute in Doha, Qatar, by Minister of Manpower Yassierli.

The minister considered Indonesia’s participation in the OIC Labour Centre as a strategic step to strengthen solidarity in the Islamic global community and expand Indonesia’s contribution to global labor diplomacy.

“Indonesia affirms its unwavering commitment to advancing decent work, productivity, and an inclusive labor market throughout the Islamic world,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

The signing took place simultaneously with five other countries: Jordan, Sierra Leone, Yemen, Lebanon, and Nigeria. This brings the total to 32 countries that have signed the Statute, and nine countries that have ratified it.

According to Yassierli, this step underscores Indonesia’s commitment in strengthening multilateral cooperation in the labor sector and actively participating in the development of policies and programs across OIC member countries.

The OIC Labour Centre is an official institution under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The facility is intended to consolidate social and employment development among member countries, facilitate the exchange of best practices, and design regional strategies and programs in the fields of employment, social protection, and human resource development.

The minister then highlighted Indonesia’s membership in the OIC Labour Centre that brings various strategic benefits, including access to international cooperation networks in the field of employment and human resource development within the OIC framework.

Followed by technical and policy support from the OIC, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to strengthen the capacity of national employment institutions.

Third, improving national workforce competency through training programs, seminars, and technical cooperation facilitated by the OIC Labour Centre.

Furthermore, access to strategic data and research to support evidence-based policymaking and support for national employment reforms to align with ILO conventions and sustainable development policies.

Lastly, increased protection for vulnerable groups, including women and youth; opportunities for collaboration and the development of investment-friendly policies to expand employment opportunities; and strengthening Indonesia’s diplomatic position at the regional and global levels in employment and social protection.
