Indonesia-South Africa join call for Gaza peace and two-state solution

Jakarta (ANTARA) – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that he had discussed efforts to end the conflict in Gaza and promote a just and lasting peace for the Palestinian people with President Prabowo Subianto.

“We exchanged views on efforts to end the conflict in Gaza and secure a just and lasting peace that realizes the aspiration of the Palestinian people for self-determination,” he remarked in a joint statement with President Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of a two-state solution, with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace.

“This should result in a two-state solution, with the state of Israel living side by side with the state of Palestine,” he continued.

He also said that the two countries agreed to increase trade volume as a driver of inclusive economic growth.

He then welcomed Indonesia’s accession as the newest member of the BRICS group.

According to him, both countries agreed on the importance of expanding and deepening bilateral relations within political and economic blocs.

“We discussed global issues as partners in organizations such as BRICS, the G20, and the Non-Aligned Movement, among others. We affirmed the need to strengthen the multilateral system to enhance the peaceful resolution of conflict through dialogue,” he remarked.

Ramaphosa also extended an invitation for Prabowo to attend the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, next month.

He stated that under South Africa’s leadership, the G20 is focused on strengthening global cooperation, particularly in supporting development on the African continent and the Global South.

“We would be honored to host President Subianto in South Africa on a state visit at a mutually agreed date. He has already indicated that he is willing and able to come to South Africa on a state visit,” Ramaphosa pointed out.

President Prabowo received a state visit from President Ramaphosa at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon.

Ramaphosa’s visit is seen as an important step in strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.

Indonesia and South Africa have maintained strong diplomatic relations for more than three decades.

President Prabowo is also scheduled to host a state dinner for President Ramaphosa and his delegation.
