“It is planned to be stationed at Squadron 31, Halim Perdanakusuma,” Suadnyana confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.
He explained that the arrival of the A400M will bolster the capabilities of Squadron 31, which is already equipped with several C-130 Hercules aircraft.
According to Suadnyana, the Air Force has prepared the necessary infrastructure to support the A400M, including hangars and maintenance facilities.
To ensure operational readiness, 22 Air Force personnel have been sent to Spain for training in the aircraft’s operation and maintenance.
Suadnyana expressed confidence that the addition of the A400M will significantly enhance the Air Force’s ability to safeguard national sovereignty.
The Ministry of Defense signed a contract in 2021 to procure two Airbus A400M aircraft configured for multirole tanker and transport missions.
The agreement, finalized during the Dubai Airshow, took effect in 2022 and includes provisions for maintenance and training support.
A Letter of Intent was also signed for the potential acquisition of four additional units.
Designed for both tactical and strategic missions, the A400M can transport personnel and cargo across diverse terrains.
It has a maximum payload capacity of 37 tons and can carry large equipment such as fuel trucks, excavators, and air defense systems like Patriot launchers.
The aircraft can also accommodate up to 116 fully equipped troops, nine military pallets, or 54 personnel, making it one of the most versatile airlifters in its class.
