“Cybersecurity is the foundation of digital sovereignty and our national economic stability,” Indonesian Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said in his statement on Thursday.
This was conveyed by Patria during a meeting with the British Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Matthew Downing, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Collaborating with partner countries with better capabilities and experience in the digital sector is deemed essential to prepare Indonesia to face cyber threats in the digital space.
“The UK’s experience is very valuable. We hope the two countries’ partnership can enhance national digital security and resilience,” the deputy minister remarked.
According to him, reflecting on the cyberattack against the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) in 2024, it is essential for every digital infrastructure to have high cybersecurity standards.
The Indonesian government is also currently drafting the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill to ensure that all critical digital infrastructure owned by the government and the private sector adopts adequate cybersecurity systems.
Downing welcomed the strategic partnership between the two partner countries in the field of cybersecurity, noting that cyber threats have created both challenges and opportunities to build collaboration.
He underlined that strengthening cyber resilience is not merely a technical priority but a strategic necessity for both countries. This, according to him, also supports the UK-Indonesia strategic partnership, which the two countries have long maintained.
Matthew stated that the UK is ready to support digital transformation in Indonesia through collaboration in knowledge exchange, capacity building, and technology partnerships.
