Through our cooperation with the Royal Foundation, we are reinforcing global initiatives to fight environmental crimes and protect our natural heritage for future generations,

Belém, Brazil (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Environment signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, strengthening Indonesia-UK collaboration in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.

“The support from the Royal Foundation strengthens our efforts in protecting Indonesia’s biodiversity and combating environmental crimes. Together, we can build better management systems and more effective responses to the threats facing our ecosystems,” Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said in a statement on Friday.

This agreement affirms both parties’ commitment to enhance biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and the global fight against illegal wildlife trade and environmental crimes.

Nurofiq noted that this collaboration will raise public awareness, strengthen public-private partnerships, and develop institutional capacity to sustainably protect natural ecosystems.

Under the LoI, both parties will explore initiatives to mobilize the role of businesses and financial institutions, improve law enforcement cooperation, and strengthen regional and international coordination in biodiversity protection and environmental crime eradication, he continued.

“This signing is not just a document, but it reflects our commitment to protecting life on earth. Through our cooperation with the Royal Foundation, we are reinforcing global initiatives to fight environmental crimes and protect our natural heritage for future generations,” he remarked.

Prior to the signing, Minister Nurofiq, along with the President’s Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Change, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, held a private audience with Prince William to convey greetings and appreciation from President Prabowo Subianto, along with their appreciation for the British Royal Family’s dedication in protecting nature and humanity.

“We welcome the spirit and vision of His Royal Highness Prince William. Together, we aim to create a safer, fairer, and more sustainable world for both people and nature,” Nurofiq pointed out.

In addition to the LoI signing, the high-level meeting of environmental leaders and ministers in Rio de Janeiro produced the Rio 2025 Declaration, reaffirming a global commitment to strengthening collective action against environmental crimes.

The Declaration highlighted the serious threats posed by illegal logging, illegal mining, wildlife trafficking, and pollution, which threaten the well-being of people and the stability of the global economy.
