Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia and Russia have agreed to explore broader cooperation in the maritime, logistics, and education sectors following a meeting between Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Russian Maritime Council Chairman Nikolai Patrushev, who also serves as Advisor to the Russian President.

In a statement Saturday, Hartarto said the meeting focused on expanding strategic partnerships to strengthen Indonesia’s maritime capabilities and infrastructure.

“The development of the maritime and logistics sector is a national priority to drive economic growth and enhance interregional connectivity,” he said.

Hartarto explained that Indonesia is boosting infrastructure development, expanding industrial capacity, and opening opportunities for collaboration with global partners to support maritime independence and competitiveness.

Patrushev expressed Russia’s readiness to cooperate in developing maritime logistics infrastructure, transferring shipping technology, and improving human resource capacity in marine engineering.

He said Moscow is also seeking educational partnerships with Indonesian maritime institutions through training programs at leading universities in St. Petersburg.

The Russian government aims to expand cooperation in maritime education and technology to help develop Indonesia’s skilled workforce, Patrushev said.

He also highlighted Russia’s support for strengthening shipping routes and international maritime connectivity as part of broader collaboration with Indonesia.

Hartarto praised Russia’s scientific and technological expertise and emphasized the importance of educational cooperation between engineering universities in both countries.

“This aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita program, which prioritizes improving human resource quality and access to advanced education,” he said.

The minister added that Indonesia will follow up on the proposals discussed and report the outcomes to President Prabowo to advance the strategic partnership.
