Where Christian Brueckner could move as he drops hint in GoFundMe to flee Germany
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Christian Brueckner set up a short-lived GoFundMe page where he begged people to send him money to ship him off to another country without an extradition treaty with the UK and Germany

Prime Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner has hinted where he could move to in a GoFundMe post.

Convicted rapist Brueckner begged for thousands of pounds to help him leave Germany. While the fundraiser was only on the website GoFundMe for about three hours, Brueckner received €100 (£87.92)before it was taken down on Saturday evening.

But before the monster’s campaign was wiped from the website, Brueckner explained why he expected people to cough up the cash and where he intended to leave Germany for. In the short-lived campaign, Brueckner bragged about being “so well known in Germany that even the police fax machine addresses me informally.”

He then said he wanted people to donate €50 (£49.96) to help him get to a country that did not have an agreement with Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office. By fleeing to one of these countries, Brueckner could avoid extradition back to Germany due to political or economic factors that strain relations between the nations.

Writing on GoFundMe, he said: “I have the chance to leave Germany legally. Finally, a break from the constant wave of suspicion, the prejudgements, and the gruelling witch hunt, and into sunny nowhere. The only thing missing is money.”

“With 500 euros, perhaps even accommodation whose address is not already on file with the Braunscweig public prosecutor’s office,” Brueckner said in the post. It is unclear where Brueckner is hoping to move to but his lawyer previously told The Mirror he could head to a country with no extradition to the UK or Germany, including Suriname in South America.

Brueckner served a sentence over the rape of a 72-year-old American pensioner in the Algarve region of Portugal, where Madeleine also went missing. He was released earlier this year and had been receiving unemployment benefits while looking for a job.

He had hoped furious neighbours would have pitched in to a fundraiser in a bid to get rid of him. Brueckner previously told a friend: “I just need to get some money together. And if people want me to leave then they make this possible by helping me to this end.”

A German court ruled Brueckner should continue to wear an electronic ankle tag, which authorities use to monitor his movements for the next five years. But it is understood the device will not work in a non-European Union country and would only be enforceable in another EU country with the co-operation of the other country.

Previously, one of his lawyers, Philipp Marquort, said: “If I were him I would leave Europe and look for a state which doesn’t extradite to Europe or Great Britain, maybe like Suriname.”

Brueckner, who is said to speak good English and Portguese would be looking for a country where he could live more freely without the threat of extradition hanging over his head. Among the countries with no extradition treaty to the UK are the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, and Vietnam.

Countries without extradition treaties to Germany include the Maldives and Montenegro as well as Indonesia and Morocco. However, this does not guarantee where Brueckner could move.
