RI plans meetings with Netherlands, China at G20 South Africa

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto will meet with the governments of the Netherlands and China on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, scheduled for November 22-23, 2025.

Deputy for Economic Cooperation and Investment, Edi Pambudi, said the ministry had received requests from several countries for bilateral talks with the president.

“We are currently coordinating with the Foreign Ministry and the Presidential Staff Office to organize the existing agenda. We see requests from the Netherlands and China, who also want to hold meetings,” Pambudi said here on Friday.

He highlighted that the G20 Summit provides an important opportunity to pursue strategic cooperation with other nations, prompting efforts to arrange bilateral meetings with various partner countries.

The summit will focus on three main sessions addressing global challenges. The first session will cover sustainable economic issues, trade and finance in development, and debt challenges in developing nations.

The second session will focus on building a resilient world, including disaster management, climate change, a just energy transition, and food systems. The third session will address decent work and artificial intelligence governance.

Pambudi added that the third session will also cover critical minerals, which are a key Indonesian proposal for this summit.

He acknowledged that debates remain on energy and trade issues, preventing full consensus.

“Some disagreements involve energy and trade, as some countries prefer bilateral arrangements over multilateral frameworks,” he said.

The South African G20 Presidency includes 15 working groups and three task forces. These cover agriculture, development, digital economy, culture, disaster mitigation, education, environment and climate sustainability, employment, health, energy transition, research and innovation, tourism, investment and trade, and women’s empowerment.

Of these groups, only trade, employment, and tourism have reached full consensus, while other topics were summarized in the chair’s report due to unresolved issues.
