The interest was conveyed during a meeting with Russian conglomerate Sistema Group, accompanied by Russia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Gennadievich Tolchenov, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.
Roeslani said both sides discussed potential cooperation between Russian and Indonesian companies.
“They are apparently the largest pulp and paper company in Russia. That is one area where they are seeking cooperation with Indonesian companies. We will only serve as a facilitator,” Roeslani said.
He noted that the government is prepared to facilitate the cooperation by connecting the prospective Russian investor with suitable local companies.
Roeslani emphasized that the meeting remains at an early stage, with no discussion yet on the potential investment value.
However, licensing processes and technical assessments are underway, including documentation with the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) for other business lines under the group.
He added that the prospects for cooperation are positive and that the Russian investor has shown strong commitment.
“Since this is still at an early stage, we cannot mention any figures yet. But it looks like things are progressing because their intention is very, very strong,” he said.
In addition to the pulp and paper sector, the meeting also touched on potential investments in healthcare, electric vessels, hospitality, and education.
