The Vice President delivered the remarks at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday.
At the second session of the G20 Summit attended by dozens of world leaders, Gibran emphasized that food security and the MBG program are not merely economic agendas.
“Indonesia President focused on food security and the Free Nutritious Meals program for 80 million students and pregnant women as a strategic investment. This initiative boosts the use of local products, empowers farmers and livestock breeders and expands economic activities across various sectors,” he said.
According to him, the MBG program has generated multiple effects, including increased use of local raw materials and the empowerment of farmers and breeders as suppliers.

At the session the world leaders centered on building a resilient world, covering issues such as disaster risk, climate change, a just energy transition, and food systems. On this matter, Gibran underscored that global solidarity and decisive leadership are required to adress increasingly frequent crises.
The Indonesian government also invited South Africa to advance energy, water, and food security.
As an archipelagic nation, Indonesia located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, faces more than 3,000 disasters annually, range from earthquakes and floods to volcanic eruptions.
Given this geographic, Gibran said that food, water, and energy security are not mere slogans for Indonesia, but daily challenges.
“Based on these experiences, Indonesia promote concept of sustainable resilience—a framework that aligns human development, economic growth, and environmental protection,” he remarked.
