Indonesia eyes UAE for expanded migrant worker placements

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia is exploring opportunities to expand migrant worker placements in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), aligning with a national goal to deploy 500,000 workers abroad by 2026.

“We have been assigned an ambitious target by the President through the Quick Win program to place 500,000 migrant workers in 2026. The UAE is among the priority countries that can significantly contribute to this goal,” Deputy Minister for Migrant Worker Protection Christina Aryani said in Jakarta on Monday.

During a virtual meeting with Indonesia’s Ambassador to the UAE, Judha Nugraha, Aryani highlighted potential placements in skilled and priority sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, construction, maritime, tourism, hospitality, and hotel services.

She noted that the meeting marked an initial step toward strengthening diplomatic and technical coordination between the ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, aimed at ensuring faster, safer, and higher-quality deployment schemes.

“Our joint plan is to hold a forum in Abu Dhabi early next year to bring together hotel end users, the ministry, and licensed placement companies in a business matching event,” Aryani added.

Ambassador Judha projected labor demand for Indonesian workers in the UAE to reach nearly 6,000 by 2026, including 5,000 in hospitality, 200 in healthcare, 100 in construction, 100 in manufacturing, and 400 in transportation.

He welcomed Indonesia’s efforts to widen market access, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to accelerate overseas employment opportunities.

“On the UAE side, we will support market penetration for the formal sector and strengthen access to detailed labor market information,” Judha said.
