In a statement posted on social media platform X, Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry said it was closely monitoring developments since Dec. 30, after forces from the Southern Transitional Council, or STC, seized key territories earlier in the month.
“Indonesia is closely following developments in the Republic of Yemen, particularly dynamics in the south, while urging all parties to act constructively, exercise restraint, and prioritize inclusive and comprehensive political dialogue,” the ministry said.
The ministry said dialogue was essential to resolving differences peacefully and preventing further escalation that could deepen instability in Yemen, which has endured years of conflict and humanitarian crises.
Indonesia also voiced support for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to convene a comprehensive conference aimed at discussing a fair and peaceful solution to the southern Yemen issue.
“Indonesia welcomes the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s initiative to facilitate a comprehensive conference in Riyadh bringing together all factions in southern Yemen,” the ministry said.
Yemen has seen an unprecedented escalation since Dec. 30, after STC forces took control of the provinces of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra earlier in December.
The two provinces together cover nearly half of Yemen’s territory and share a direct border with Saudi Arabia, giving them strategic and economic importance.
On the same day, Saudi Arabia accused the United Arab Emirates of encouraging STC forces to conduct military operations along the kingdom’s southern border in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra.
Abu Dhabi denied the accusation, rejecting claims it played a role in pushing the STC toward military action in the border regions.
The STC has argued that Yemen’s internationally recognized government has long marginalized southern regions politically and economically, and has renewed calls for secession.
Yemeni authorities have rejected those claims, reaffirming their commitment to national unity and warning that further fragmentation would worsen the country’s prolonged conflict.
