During January 2026, Indonesia secured awards across 32 categories from 25 international organizations and institutions, according to a ministry statement confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The awarding bodies included TripAdvisor, Rough Guides, U.S. News, Forbes, Condé Nast Traveler, BBC, Tatler Travel, Travel + Leisure India, Luxury Escapes, Afar Media and Net-a-Porter, among others.
The accolades covered leading destinations such as Bali, Sumba, Labuan Bajo and Raja Ampat, as well as Indonesian hotels and resorts, reflecting rising service standards and globally competitive visitor experiences.
Bali achieved one of the most prominent distinctions, ranking first as the World’s Best Destination for 2026 and Best in Asia at TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards.
The recognition was granted under TripAdvisor’s Top Destinations in the World and Asia categories, placing Bali ahead of major international tourism hubs.
“Thank you for recognizing Indonesia’s tourism sector. This achievement is both a source of pride and a challenge to keep improving service quality and ensuring benefits reach local communities,” she said.
The awards reflect Indonesia’s commitment to developing tourism that is competitive, sustainable and rooted in cultural heritage while protecting natural ecosystems, she added.
The ministry expects the recognition to strengthen Indonesia’s sustainable tourism strategy, enhance the country’s global image and attract higher-quality visitors with positive economic, social and environmental impacts.
Widiyanti said she was proud of the sector’s achievements, crediting consistent collaboration among government agencies, industry players and local communities in maintaining service standards and preserving cultural and environmental values.
The Indonesian government has set a target of 16 million to 17.6 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2026.
It is also aiming for foreign-exchange revenue of 22 billion to 24.7 billion rupiah, with tourism’s contribution to gross domestic product rising to 4.5 percent–4.7 percent.
