“We are increasing synergy with the authorities to enforce the law and maintain national security and order,” said Winarko, the head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, in Denpasar, Bali, on Thursday.
Cosmin, who is on Interpol’s Red Notice list, departed Bali on a Middle Eastern airline via Doha for Bucharest, Romania.
The 33-year-old was arrested on January 15 in Kerobokan by a joint task force from the Indonesian National Police and the Bali Regional Police.
Investigation into his entry revealed that Cosmin first arrived in Indonesia on November 14, 2023, via Soekarno-Hatta Airport from Chengdu, China.
Records showed he had previously attempted to leave Indonesia for Kuala Lumpur; however, while booking data existed, there was no record of him actually crossing immigration.
His presence was later detected in Jakarta and Bali in November 2025, but a fresh tip from Romanian authorities in Bucharest ultimately led police to his location in Bali for the final arrest.
While in Bali, Cosmin lived off the income of his Indonesian wife, whom he married in an unregistered ceremony. She was reportedly unaware that her husband was an international fugitive.
Cosmin is a primary suspect in a brutal 2023 murder and robbery of a businessman in Sibiu, Romania.
In the attack, Cosmin and two accomplices broke into the home of a local businessman, tortured the victim, and threatened the victim’s daughter with a firearm before stealing a luxury watch worth 200,000 euros.
He has been an international fugitive since the Sibiu Court issued an arrest warrant on November 19, 2023.
His two accomplices were previously captured in Ireland and Scotland and were deported to Romania, where they are currently serving life sentences.
