Acting director general of immigration, Yuldi Yusman, on Saturday informed that the inspections, conducted by the Directorate General of Immigration as part of a coordinated national initiative, covered 2,098 locations.
“Most of the foreign nationals inspected were from China with 1,143 people, followed by 156 people from South Korea, 81 people from Japan, 74 people from India, and 71 people from Malaysia,” he informed in a press statement.
The raids also covered 60 foreign nationals from the Philippines, 46 from the United States, 39 from Thailand, 29 from the Netherlands, and 28 from Yemen, he said.
The majority of foreign nationals covered by the immigration sweep held limited stay permits (1,581) and visit stay permits (326).
The rest comprised permanent stay permit holders (42), UNHCR asylum seekers (43), and illegal immigrants (12), while 16 nationals did not hold any residence permit, he informed.
Yusman said that several immigration violations were found during the operation, with the most common being misuse of stay permits (148).
In addition, 34 foreign nationals were unable to show any travel documents or stay permits when requested by officers, he added.
“Other violations included 29 cases of overstaying, 25 cases of addresses not matching their residence permits or failing to change their addresses, and 8 cases of using fictitious sponsors,” he explained.
Yusman informed that the 294 violators are currently undergoing further investigation.
If their violations are solely within the scope of immigration, they will be subject to sanctions under the Immigration Law.
“However, if there is a suspicion of a general crime, the foreign nationals in question will be handed over to the authorities,” he said.
His office will conduct similar operations to ensure compliance with immigration procedures.
“This is our commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and ensuring that every foreigner in Indonesia complies with all applicable laws,” he emphasized.
