Ministry begins 2026 Hajj planning with thorough evaluation
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has begun preparing for the 2026 Hajj organization by emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive and sustainable evaluation of the pilgrimage.

“We understand that organizing a large-scale Hajj pilgrimage is challenging. Therefore, a comprehensive evaluation is necessary for ensuring improved quality of Hajj management,” the ministry’s Deputy for Coordination of Strengthening Character and National Identity, Warsito, noted in a statement on Friday.

He also praised all parties involved in successfully carrying out the 2025 Hajj, especially the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Hajj Organizing Agency (BP Haji).

In the same statement, Deputy for Domestic Hajj Service Coordination at BP Haji, Puji Raharjo, shared that preparations for the 1447 Hijri/2026 Hajj began in early June of 2025 by prioritizing the acceleration of tent reservations in Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina (Armuzna), targeted for completion by the end of July 2025.

“Several crucial aspects, such as accommodation, air transportation, and payment of Hajj fees, will be prepared from August to September. Alternative airports for departure and returns are also being considered to increase the efficiency of pilgrim movement,” Raharjo stated.

Meanwhile, Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organization of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Hilman Latief, emphasized the need to address every dynamic related to Hajj operations with appropriate policies.

He also emphasized the importance of policies designed over a fiscal year and strengthening regulations to prevent the monopolization of services by Islamic banks.

In the health sector, Head of the Hajj Health Center at the Ministry of Health, Liliek Marhaendro Susilo, stated that around 80 percent of pilgrims have comorbidities, requiring a more adaptive Hajj healthcare system.

Regarding foreign relations, Ahrul Tsani Fathurrahman, Middle East Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed that the Hajj organization is a key part of Indonesia’s strategic interests in bilateral diplomacy with Saudi Arabia.

“The Hajj is part of Indonesia’s core diplomacy. All communication is conducted through diplomatic notes to establish a strong foundation,” he remarked.

Key aspects, such as quotas, healthcare services, smartpass implementation, and the Hajj Village, will continue to be promoted through the High-Level Cooperation Council (DKT), chaired directly by the President of Indonesia and the King of Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Director of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Agustinus Budi, highlighted the importance of optimizing alternative airports, given that Taif Airport is currently unusable due to its short runway to serve Hajj aircraft.

The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture is currently pushing for the signing of a technical cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Hajj Supervisory Agency, particularly for institutional transition, while awaiting discussions on the Hajj and Umrah Bill.
