Palembang (ANTARA) – The South Sumatra Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency (BKHIT) facilitated the export of swamp frog legs caught by local residents from various regions to France.

“To facilitate exports to that country, our team assisted exporters in Palembang by providing guidance on the processing process and verifying documents,” said Head of BKHIT South Sumatra, Sri Endah Ekandari, in Palembang on Sunday.

She explained that before export, the frog legs underwent technical pest and disease control inspections, including physical inspections, processing site supervision, and document verification.

The entire process was carried out meticulously and in accordance with procedures by the BKHIT South Sumatra team to ensure food safety, quality, and smooth export operations.

Processing was conducted by officially certified exporters who implemented the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system.

The facilitation of frog leg exports reflects the commitment of various stakeholders to maintaining product quality and expanding global market access.

“We fully support business actors’ efforts to penetrate export markets. Through quarantine measures, we ensure that every product shipped is of the highest quality and meets all requirements,” she said.

Besides providing significant economic value, Sri Endah emphasized that frog leg exports also help empower local communities, especially rural frog catchers.

According to her, this initiative aligns with the directives of the Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), Sahat M. Panggabean, to stimulate regional economic growth.

She stated that selling frog legs provides an alternative livelihood for local communities and encourages the sustainable use of biological resources, while upholding principles of conservation and ecosystem balance.

Frog leg exports facilitated throughout 2025 reached 32.06 tons, with an economic value of Rp5.24 billion (US$319,841).

Previously, in 2023, the South Sumatra BKHIT facilitated exports of 17.08 tons of frog legs to France, and in 2024, this figure rose to 86.4 tons.

“We are committed to continuing our active role in accelerating the export of frog legs and other superior commodities from South Sumatra through fast, precise, and professional quarantine services,” said Sri Endah.
