Yes South Korea ( in the Cities ), China ( in the cities ), Taiwan ( more nationwide ), Japan ( in the cities ) and Singapore are at the top of the rankings at a huge cost to the Childrens overall welfare. The Kids in South Korea study until 9 pm, go home, eat, bath and bed. Get up at around 6 am and another day begins. Even at the weekend, parents put their kids into extra classes.

There was a heated debate in india on this pisa test among government and scholars because the pisa test made more suitable to western standards….the test is compulsory in english ( why I don't know)…the test also contain lot of cultural questions which are alien to non christian countries like India…it's hindu majority County….the test standards favour more to european style education and won't consider the other innovative ways to be worth learning…..that's reason why indian stop participating in pisa test.

The problem with education in USA is that students are not smart, don't want to learn, are into drugs and other bad things (smoking, drinking), wanting money but not wanting to study, and being lazy to get up in the morning! Parents don't make them do this if they don't want to

Respect for others ,for the environment is lost and I am talking about the UK as well. Reform in way of teaching needs to be rewied and changed, inspired from the Finland education system or Asian education system. More investment in education rather than other sectors ,because these students are our future, invest in them. Education must change.

Even a middle class mother who devotes time to teach her child in india can outshine the child educated in a so called advanced country One good mother is equal to a 100 good teachers Home environment and dedication to spiritual values at home can make a world of a difference

Education means going to places where you have people of your own calibre and where there is meeting of minds. Otherwise, you will end up with a lot of duffers who can completely screw your life. Think carefully before interacting with people or selecting your life partner. Duffers will always have insecurities and are inherently dumb, which they will project onto you in the most vicious ways possible.

  35. @sommmeguy says:

How well a child gains knowledge is not about what happens in the classroom, but at home. Parents who take an interest in their child's education and cooperate with the child's teachers make all the difference. In America, where kids have sports and arts and hobbies and a lot (a lot) of leisure – all with seemingly higher priority than actual school work, it is amazing the children learn anything at all.

East Asian education systems can be quite harsh . heavily focused on memorisation with little balance between school and life. Many children spend more time in classrooms than at home, which feels unnatural and unhelpful. If you visit one of these schools, you’ll often see that creativity and social skills are lacking.

I have taught all around the world, including in the UK and eastern Asia. South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong don't do well because of the system, but rather because of the very positive attitudes of students and parents towards education. In the UK, particularly, we have to stop looking to blame teachers and schools, and instead consider the broader picture.

As a doctor in education living in Estonia for 20 years, I would like to invite you to check the figures of child and teenage self-harm and suicide within the "Top performing countries". Education and schooling are not the same thing! The pandemic we are witnessing is related to a decline in mental health both in kids and adults spending time in schools! The economy cannot be the driver in human. development and growth and, sadly, your programme is giving that impression.
PS. No mention to Pearson Education making money with the PISA test and selling resources to the countries participating.

It depends on the definition of “best”. Certainly I’m sure that my gov has a different definition than I do, they would think the best would be the one that has uses and abuses methods like control and brain washing and nudge methods. They want a population that goes along with their narrative and does as it’s good because it believes what the gov tells it. That’s not for me or my family.
