Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that U.S. President Donald Trump is right when he says that Russia’s conflict in Ukraine would not have taken place if Trump had been in the White House at the time.
“In one of my last phone conversations with Mr. Biden — I won’t go into details now, though we naturally have records of this discussion — I explicitly told him that conflicts, especially hot conflicts, must be avoided, and that all issues should be resolved through peaceful means,” Putin said.
This is the first time Putin has acknowledged Trump’s repeated claim that there would have been no war in Ukraine with him as president.
Putin began his invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 when Joe Biden was president.
