Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government will hand over at least 25,000 subsidized homes to beneficiaries across the country, Housing and Settlement Minister Maruarar Sirait announced on Wednesday.

“This is the first time we will carry out the handover of at least 25,000 subsidized houses on Monday [September 29],” Sirait said.

The main ceremony will be held in Bogor, West Java, which was chosen for its strong housing development performance and because the district records one of the highest levels of extreme poverty in the country, according to Statistics Indonesia.

The handover will take place simultaneously at 90 locations across 30 provinces. The homes were purchased through loans managed by the Public Housing Savings Management Agency (BP Tapera).

BP Tapera Commissioner Heru Pudyo Nugroho said the event, which includes mortgages under the Housing Ownership Loan (KPR) and Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) schemes, will be the largest housing handover in Indonesia’s history.

“Hopefully, this will run smoothly, and we expect the President will attend and witness this historic moment,” Nugroho said.

The government also plans to expand subsidized housing in major cities, prioritizing vertical housing in urban areas like Jakarta where land is scarce. The policy aims to ensure low-income communities have access to affordable homes in cities.

From January 1 to September 15, more than 221,000 KPR units were realized, including houses under construction, ready stock, and homes with signed contracts awaiting mortgage disbursement. Of these, more than 175,600 were financed through the FLPP scheme.
