The EGP is designed as a new cooperation framework intended to drive growth and collaboration across several strategic sectors.
“The two countries need to formulate the strategic values of EGP to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation,” stated Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in a statement on Friday.
The commitment arose from a meeting between Minister Hartarto and the UK Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Dominic Jermey, in Jakarta on Thursday.
The discussion served as a follow-up to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the UK in November 2024, as well as a prior meeting between Hartarto and Jermey in May 2025.
Through the EGP, Indonesia and the UK plan to deepen collaboration in key areas, including: clean energy, education, technology, financial services, and inclusive and sustainable trade and investment.
Furthermore, the partnership is expected to become one of the main pillars in the New Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two nations, which is targeted for finalization by the end of 2025.
Hartarto sees the EGP as a crucial step to consolidate existing economic cooperation while opening space for a more strategic partnership, especially amid the global energy transition and economic digitalization
In addition to the EGP, the minister and the ambassador discussed Indonesia’s ongoing accession process to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The UK reiterated its readiness to share its experience regarding the process, consistent with the support provided during President Prabowo’s London visit last year.
This support aligns with the Joint Statement on a New Strategic Partnership, which reaffirms the commitment of both countries to strengthening cross-regional economic connectivity.
