Prime Minister Mark Carney has said Canada plans to recognise a Palestinian state in September, becoming the third G7 nation to make such an announcement in recent days.
Carney said the move depends on democratic reforms, including the Palestinian Authority holding elections next year without Hamas.
His remarks come a day after the UK announced it would recognise a Palestinian state in September unless Israel agreed to a ceasefire and other conditions and a week after France unveiled a similar plan.
Israel’s foreign ministry rejected Canada’s announcement, calling it “a reward for Hamas”. Most countries – 147 of the UN’s 193 member states – formally recognise a Palestinian state.
US President Donald Trump said Canada’s move threatens a US-Canada trade deal.

From CTV news: based on data published by the Israel Tax Authority…shows shipments from Canada that Israeli authorities classified as bullets, guns and other weapons.
The Canadian Press has reviewed the publicly available data sets, which include a shipment this past April listed as “bullets” sent from Canada to Israel with the “quantity” listed as 175,000, under the customs code that Israel uses for “munitions of war and parts thereof.”
Similar bullet shipments from Canada arrived in Israel in February, July and December of 2024.

For decades, innocent men, women, and especially children have lived under constant fear. Bombs destroy their homes. Blockades choke their cities. Schools and hospitals turn to ruins. Families are torn apart — not by fate, but by war.
Children in Palestine don’t dream of toys or trips; they dream of peace, safety, and just one night without fear. Mothers weep over the lifeless bodies of their babies. Fathers search for food, water, and shelter, while the world mostly watches in silence.
But Palestine is not just a land of victims. It is a land of brave hearts. A place where hope survives even in the darkest hour. Their spirit has not broken — and it should inspire us all.

How about a recognition that the Palestinians have the right to an independent state, and if the necessary preconditions exist to govern such a state within international laws, such a recognition will take effect. More importantly, the nations’ voting for such a recognition will be obligated to provide the resources and finance to enable the creation and erection of a viable and independent Palestinian state.
