“This is an extraordinary achievement because through this tournament we are also striving to secure as many tickets as possible to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics,” NPC Indonesia Chairman Senny Marbun said in a statement on Monday.
The Red-and-White contingent emerged as overall champion at the Polytron Indonesia Para Badminton International 2025, held at GOR Indoor Manahan in Solo, Central Java, from October 29 to November 2.
Indonesia won six gold, three silver, and six bronze medals — a result that Marbun said boosts confidence ahead of the 2028 Paralympics.
Despite the strong showing, he noted that qualification for the Paralympics remains highly competitive, highlighting the impressive performance of Indian athletes in Solo.
“We can see that India is indeed strong. The athletes they brought to Solo are really impressive,” he said.
At the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Indonesia sent 35 athletes and won one gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals.
In Solo, Indonesia’s standout performer was Leani Ratri Oktila, who captured three gold medals — in women’s singles SL4, women’s doubles SL3–SU5 with Khalimatus Sadiyah, and mixed doubles SL3–SU5 with Hikmat Ramdani.
Additional golds came from Qonitah Ikhtiar Syakuroh in women’s singles SL3, Subhan and Rina Marlina in mixed doubles SH6, and Subhan and Dimas Tri Aji in men’s doubles SH6.
Indonesia narrowly topped India, which earned five gold medals and one cross-country gold not fully counted, along with eight silver and 14 bronze medals.
